Penguin Random House (PRH) strengthened its grip on the picture book bestseller lists, claiming 40% of total available list positions in 2023, up from 33% the year before.

PRH's dominance would be even greater if titles from Sourcebooks were included. Sourcebooks had 26 books on the lists, taking 10.8% of all positions.

On the children's frontlist fiction list, PRH increased its share of bestseller positions to 17.8% from 13.5% the previous year, denting Scholastic's dominant position. [ more ]

Penguin Random House won the Grand Prix and Physical Product Design awards at The Drum Awards for Design with its Unburnable Book that spoke out against censorship.

The Unburnable Book was a one-of-a-kind edition of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, designed to be impossible to burn.

The book received significant media coverage, with over 5,000 organic media hits and a reach of 12 billion worldwide. [ more ]
